Membership Levels
Flying Member

Cost: $450/year (paid bi-annually in April & October)

Privileges: Voting member, eligible for Board positions, and full access to FLAPS aircraft.

Most Popular
Full Member

Cost: $100/year

Privileges: Voting member and eligible for Board positions, but no flying privileges.

Associate Member (Instructors)

Cost: $50/year

Privileges: Non-voting member. Approved FLAPS instructors may fly with students. Cannot fly for personal use without being a Flying Member.

New Members: You'll need to pay initial dues and purchase a copy of the Piper Warrior Pilot Operating Handbook ($25).

Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) Information
Medical Certificate Requirements

Before you can solo or earn your private pilot certificate, you'll need a medical certificate from an FAA-authorized Aviation Medical Examiner (AME).

Third Class Medical
  • Required for private pilot privileges
  • Valid for 5 years (under 40) or 2 years (over 40)
  • Most common for recreational flying
BasicMed Alternative
  • Use your regular physician
  • Valid for 4 years
  • Some aircraft/altitude limitations
  • Must have already received a Third Class (or higher) medical to be eligible
Important: Schedule your medical exam early in your training. Some medical conditions may require additional documentation or deferrals that can delay your training progress.
